Clarity is still needed to help financial aid teams make compliance decisions that directly affect student aid for 2026-2027. The latest call for action comes from U.S. Rep. Alma Adams and 15 other members of Congress.

The 2026-2027 award year has created one of the most challenging operating environments the financial aid community has faced in recent years.
New federal requirements have affected student eligibility, loan limits, loan proration, Schedule of Reduction calculations, disbursements and institutional reporting. Colleges, software providers and Title IV servicers have been required to interpret guidance, update systems and implement significant changes within an extremely compressed timeline and limited guidance from the Department of Education.
The need for greater clarity continues to be recognized nationally. U.S Rep. Alma Adams and 15 other members of Congress recently called on the Department of Education to provide additional formal, written guidance and specific examples addressing loan proration and the Schedule of Reductions. While the Department has released FAQs and conducted office hours, institutions and servicers still need consistent guidance they can rely on when making compliance decisions that directly affect student aid. At Global Financial Aid Services, our focus remains clear: helping our college partners deliver accurate and timely financial aid while maintaining strong compliance controls.
That requires us to:
- Monitor and interpret evolving federal guidance
- Translate regulatory requirements into operational processes
- Prioritize issues that directly affect student funding
- Expand automation while maintaining appropriate human oversight
- Communicate openly with our college partners
The current environment has required additional reviews, system adjustments and, in some cases, rework or longer processing times. We recognize the impact this can have on colleges and their students. Our responsibility is to address these challenges transparently, respond quickly and continually improve.
Title IV servicing is about more than processing transactions. It requires regulatory expertise, reliable technology, accurate institutional data and strong collaboration among colleges, servicers and software providers.
The landscape will continue to evolve, but our commitment will remain the same: protecting institutional compliance and helping students receive the financial aid for which they are eligible.
